Stimulsoft tools enable collaboration between people located in different countries and speaking different languages. We have created all the necessary conditions to eliminate language barriers and have taken into account regional specifics of working with data. Today’s article focuses on an important aspect of creating reports and dashboards - their localization, specifically the culture settings of a report.

Report culture

The format of data displayed in a report, such as dates, time, numbers, and currency values, may depend on the regional settings of the operating system or browser. By default, format masks in standalone applications depend on the operating system settings, while in web products they depend on browser settings. The Culture property in a report template is used to apply data format masks regardless of the current environment settings. In addition, the Globalization Strings editor allows you to define localization of report fields for specific cultures.

You can read more about report culture in the relevant section of the documentation. Let’s take a closer look at the commands Set Culture Settings to Report and Get Culture Settings from Report.

Set Culture Settings to Report command

This command allows you to explicitly apply localization of report fields for a specific culture.

Example of usage
In the report, all fields are localized according to the en-US culture settings. At the same time, the Globalization Strings editor contains the fr-FR culture with localized field values. To apply this culture, that is, to localize the fields into French, you need to select the fr-FR culture in the Globalization Strings editor and click the Set Culture Settings to Report command.

Get Culture Settings from Report command

This command allows you to extract the current localization of report fields and set them as values for a selected culture.

Example of usage
In the report, all fields are localized in German. To extract these localizations, you need to add the de-DE culture to the list in the Globalization Strings editor and execute the Get Culture Settings from Report command. After that, the de-DE culture in the editor will contain the field localizations from this report.

Report localization with AI

Additionally, another important capability of the Stimul AI assistant is AI-powered localization of report fields. In other words, when adding a new culture in the Globalization Strings editor, you can translate report component values using artificial intelligence. To do this, click Add Culture in the Globalization Strings editor, select the desired culture, and enable the Translate using Stimul AI option. The field values will then be automatically localized by AI for that culture.
